History: The idea of starting a Rotary Club in Kenosha was first proposed by Cecil Harris, brother of the founder of Rotary International, Paul Harris of Racine.
Cecil came to Kenosha to visit with George Taylor and to interest him in the idea of forming a Rotary Club. (Our George Taylor Scholarship is funded by the Taylor family to this day.)
Taylor in turn approached four other Kenosha businessmen: Walter J. Frost of the Frost Company, Walter T. Marlatt of the Kenosha News, E.J. Geittman a car dealer, and E.L. Shippee of Wisconsin Electric. The Kenosha Rotary Club was chartered on April 1, 1921, with 25 members and George Taylor as president.
In 1989 the International organization changed its bylaws to allow the entry of women and we currently have some 12 women. You can become a member of this Kenosha service club -- and we emphasize service -- by contacting any Kenosha Rotarian. See a list by clicking the "members" tab above. Or call 657-3173 and leave your name, contact information, and occupation. Your name will be submitted by a Rotarian sponsor to the Board of Directors and Club for approval. Once approved, you will be asked to join the fellowship and service of the Kenosha Rotary Club to help us perform our service to the area and join our network of like-thinking individuals in the community.
